Chelsea was beaten in their club World Cup collision against Flamengo when they ended with ten men after Nicolas Jackson received a second red card in as many months
Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea is told that he “should improve a little with things like this” by teammate Marc Cucurella after he had shown a red card within four minutes of his introduction, because the blues were defeated by Flamengo in the club World Cup.
The Chelsea frontman came from the bank in Philadelphia, but only takes four minutes before he got his mars orders. The Senegalese star recklessly planted his studs on the shin of Ayrton Lucas just after his side fell 2-1, making their task even harder.
It is the second time in a few weeks that Jackson was carded red. He was sent in Newcastle in May when the West Londoners fell on a 2-0 loss and his moment of madness against his team again, because they eventually lost 3-1 to their Brazilian opponents.
The Jackson antics have drawn criticism from all quarters and Cucurella has admitted that the 24-year-old has to tackle the problem in his game.
The Spaniard said: “It's a bit bad luck. He tried to put his foot in to kick the ball, but he kicked the player's leg. That's it. We now miss him for the next game. He is a young player with a lot of quality and maybe he should improve this.”
Cucurella confirmed that Jackson, who was described as a “very important player for us”, came up and apologized to the group in the aftermath of the loss with the attacker to social media and to issue a statement in which he said there were “no excuses”.
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates and all the fans who watch, I will let you down,” read it. “Another red card … And to be honest, I am so angry with myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to place us in these situations. I still do not quite understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it was not intentional. A moment in the football that went the wrong way.”
Chelsea -Baas Enzo Maresca refused to live too much in the situation when he said, “It was a red card, so nothing to say.” Jackson's moment of madness opening the door for new signature Liam Delap to further use his claim.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel shot Jackson for his red card challenge as he said on Dazn: “Incredible. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. I don't know what's going through his head. You're in game, you're 2-1, your team needs you, and you do.
“He did it in the important Premier League match against Newcastle, when we had to win to qualify for the Champions League places, and he did it again. You can't make mistakes.”
