Nicolas Jackson was sent for dangerously elbigent Newcastle star Sven Botman during the race for Champions League qualification -collision.
The Chelsea striker seemed to look at Botman before he led with his right forearm while he jumped into the air.
Jackson did not try to play the ball and clattered his elbow in the 33rd minute in Botman, with Newcastle 1-0.
Referee John Brooks initially gave Jackson a yellow card in St James' Park.
But VAR intervened to check the images for serious false play and decided to send Brooks to the monitor.
Fan in the ground knew what would come as soon as Brooks started to judge the images.
The referee changed his decision and upgraded yellow to a straight red, which forbids Jackson for the next three games.
