Chelsea stretch WSL lead to eight points as West Ham frustrate Man City

Chelsea moves eight points on the Women's Super League summit with a 3-1 win over Leicester City.

Catarina Macario, Agnes Beever-Jones and Erin Cuthbert were on goal in Kingsmeadow on Wednesday.

Chelsea saw a winning streak of nine games, which withdrew to a 1-1 draw against Leicester in December, ended by Sunday's 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The blues, which are still unbeaten this season, broke the impasse after just eight minutes, with Macarios free kick that Leicester goalkeeper Janina Leitzig defeated through a deflection by Julie Thibaud.

Chelsea doubled their lead within six minutes after the restart, while Bever-Jones held on the smart backheel of Mayra Ramirez to fire home.

Leicester – looking for their very first WSL victory in London – stopped the deficit in the 55th minute when Yuka Momiki Slim lifted about goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

But the hosts brought the game to bed four minutes of the time, while Cuthbert curled from the edge of the area through the pole of the area.

Elsewhere, a late West Ham equalizer Manchester City denied the chance to climb into the top three.

The side of Gareth Taylor, who four times opposite Chelsea opposite three games in the room of 12 days later this month, was on a four-match winning streak and bore the larger attacking threat, ended with 2.35 expected goals up to 0.78 from West Ham.

City -thebutant Laura WienroitheHory rattled the crossbar from distance, and they finally broke through in the 80th minute, while Vivianne Miedema flashed on Mary Fowler's Cross for Khadija Shaw to end up close.

However, the Hammers have awarded a fifth defeat in their last six games in the first minute of the stopping time, with Manuela Pavi curling a shot in the far corner to determine part of the loot.
