Alejandro Garnacho is one of the players of Manchester United who is expected to leave before the transfer window closes and potential joins Chelsea seem to have made a breakthrough
Chelsea is a step closer to the landing of Alejandro Garnacho. The blues are supposed to have agreed the conditions with the winger of Manchester United, although they still have to find a common basis with United against transfer costs.
Garnacho is out of favor at Old Trafford, with Ruben Amorim who adds Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to his attacking options after he had fallen out with his number 17. The Argentinian was left at home while the Red Devils went to the United States for the season, with the expectation that he will leave for Deadline Day.
Garnacho is desperate to move to Stamford Bridge, after he made Chelsea his first choice this summer and the 21-year-old agreed personal conditions. However, it will of course count for nothing without an agreement on the reimbursement.
The asking price of United of £ 50 million seems to be too steep for the blues at the time of writing. There had been suggestions that the Red Devils could follow a partial exchange agreement with Garnacho and Nicolas Jackson, but their movement for Benjamin Sesko seems to have put an end to those conversations.
The asking price is lower than in January, when Chelsea and Napoli both loved Garnacho. Since then, however, the stock of the winger has fallen because it has become clear that Amorim does not see him as a normal starter.
“I think you can understand with Garnacho and you can see that he is talented, he is a real talented boy,” Amorim said earlier in the summer. “But sometimes things don't work and you can't specifically explain what it is.
“But I have the feeling – and I think it's clear – that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership and I can understand that. So I don't think it's a problem. Sometimes you adjust to one man and you have the connection. Other times you want a new challenge.”
United has already discharged another member of their so -called 'bomb squad', with Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona with a seasonal loan. The international from England could permanently move to Camp Nou if he impresses during the campaign, where Barca has an option.
The club still hopes to discharge Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia after the trio had finished on loan last season. Real Betis likes to keep Antony in Seville after he was impressed in the last term, while Sancho has pulled interest from the Serie A, even though Chelsea chooses a permanent dive after a year on loan at Stamford Bridge.
United plays their last pre-season friendly at home on Fiorentina on Saturday before they start their Premier League campaign against Arsenal. Chelsea will not have Garnacho on time this weekend for their friendly matches against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, but he could arrive on time for their competition opener against Crystal Palace.
