Chelsea taking steps to ward off Real Madrid interest in defender as contract agreement is “close”

In 2025, Real Madrid will almost certainly look to sign at least one right-back as Dani Carvajal (who is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury) and Lucas Vazquez are coming to the end of their careers. At least one successor will be needed soon, and while Trent Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked, he is not the only Premier League side being courted by Los Blancos.

Josh Acheampong is loved at Real Madrid, and with his contractual situation at Chelsea up in the air in recent months, this has given hope to the defending La Liga and European champions. However, this hope may now be dashed,

According to Diario AS, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that a new contract for Acheampong is “close”. Once it is completed, it is believed he would become a first-team regular.

Acheampong's current contract expires in 2026, and therefore Real Madrid had a good chance of signing him. However, if he extends, it would put an end to their pursuit for the time being.
