Chelsea trigger Sancho transfer clause as Manchester United await £5m decision

Chelsea's obligation to buy Manchester United -Misfit Jadon Sancho has already been activated by the blues, but the Red Devils may have to wait for the £ 25 million they owe for the winger

Chelsea was still able to make a U-turn about their deal for Jadon Sancho, despite his permanent move to Stamford Bridge that was already sealed. The blues signed the English winger on a seasonal loan from Manchester United last summer.

And within that agreement there was an obligation of £ 25 million to permanently buy the former Borussia Dortmund -Mund – albeit with certain conditions. One is that the obligation was only activated after it was mathematically confirmed that Chelsea would finish 15th or higher this season in the Premier League.

That will now take place after the dramatic victory of the Londoners against near-neighbor Fulham at the weekend. The Cottagers had taken the lead in Craven Cottage via Alex Iwobi on Sunday, only for Tyrique George to be tied at the last moments.

Former Wolves wing player Pedro Neto then yielded a stop time winner to seal the three points for the men of Enzo Maresca. The victory leaves Chelsea in fifth place – the last spot of the Champions League – and assured that they will not end up lower than 13th. And that position automatically saw the obligatory clause activated in the Sancho deal.

However, there are still a few decisions to make before he becomes a permanent Chelsea player.

The blues can still pay a fine of £ 5 million to withdraw a deal and there is still some time for Chelsea to make a decision about it. Boss Maresca said last month: “I am fully focused on nine games, two months to go, I am completely focused on that. We will see what happens in the summer.

“The Jadon situation is not changing. In terms of figures, he could undoubtedly be able to do better. It's not just about Jadon, but we have more players in the same situation.”

He then doubled that assessment earlier this month. He added: “Yes, no, he is doing well. Today we decided to start with Pedro and Noni. Noni is back from an injury, scored twice the other day. Pedro is doing well. And Jadon plays almost every game,” Maresca explained.

“The idea was just to freshen up with him, knowing that he will give us a good time, goal aid, and he will show himself in the second half. Then for the future, to be honest, this is now the time. With a month to go, it's just the focus. It's about how we can end, and then we have time to decide.”

Sancho scored three goals this season and ten assists for Chelsea. His next chance to impress this weekend will probably come against Everton at Stamford Bridge.
