Sonia Bompastor says that Chelsea is ready to “embrace the challenge” to oppose Manchester City for a fourth time in 12 days with the task of recovering a shortage of two goals from the first stage of their Champions League showdown.
Chelsea is located on unknown territory. Bompastor's 28 game unbeaten run when Blues Boss stopped abruptly in Manchester last week when Vivianne Miedema came from the bank to score twice in 28 minutes and Man City commanded the draw.
But the French woman insists that the hope of her parties in another European semi -final – probably against reigning champions Barcelona – is still alive and encourages her players to end this extraordinary run of luminaires with “no regret”.
“I don't want my players to regret. This is what we want to go for,” she said. “The preparation of the game is really important. We talked about the strategy of the game and it is really important to have everyone on the same page. We feel ready, we have to implement the game plan.
“We have all the qualities to turn things around. Ninety minutes is a lot of time for us. We need a strong start. Everyone in the club wants to win this competition, I still have the feeling that we have the capacity and quality to turn things around. I told my players 'we are still life' last week, that is important.
“Last week was not decisive, we have to respond. I concentrate a lot on my team. Man Man City play three times, you can know more, it's a really rare situation, but even if I know more, I still need time to know it [everything] over him [Nick Cushing]. I feel no difference to set this game. We must believe and be confident. I just want us to attack the game and not regret at the end. “
Cushing looking for improvement in the midst of tension of rivalry
While City has the advantage in the Champions League -Easy game, Interim -Baas Nick Cushing is looking for improvement of Sunday's WSL loss to Chelsea -although he noticed the tension made by the encounters on his team.
“The plan must be a little better,” he said. “The group did great during the three games, you can see that the games have been the same.”
In one fell swoop to City, Bunny Shaw and Aoba Fujino will both miss the game.
“The medical team and the performance team do incredible work by the team,” Cushing said.
“It has not been ideal for the past two weeks to lose Bunny Shaw and Aoba Fujino and it was not ideal on Sunday, but you look at the group, they still train incredibly hard. I still see the faith.”
Yui Hasegawa and Laia Aleixandri are in the team despite the fact that they end up with injuries during the weekend – although Cushing said that the involvement of Hasegawa is not guaranteed.
“Having those players is proof of them and their dedication, but also for the incredible work of the medical team,” Cushing said before he added: “Yui leaves the ground in crutches and I will not jump on the gun and say that she will be ready.”
The ultimate revenge mission of Man City
Sky Sports' Laura Hunter:
“If we analyze the long game, it is 2-1 Chelsea. The highlight of this fascinating Bonanza with four phases between the blues and Manchester City will determine who is progressing in Europe on Thursday, in which Chelsea already won their rivals in the competition final and WSL through the same 2-1 Scoreline.
“Swallowed between was a beautiful 2-0 scalp in which Vivianne Miedema City prevailed in the Champions League. What a roller coaster ride.
“The message is probably changing. Nick Cushing will repeat his team that earlier meetings, three in the last 12 days, will not do.
“The WSL -Hoop of City was long gone (although they now have a tough battle to qualify for next season's Champions League, unless they naturally win it) and while Competition Cupid would have been silverware sweet, the chance of moving Chelsea in Europe – the trophy she most can be considered the most as meander.
“It was Cushing that City led to their previous semi-finals of the Champions League in 2016/17 and 2017/18 and the prospect of securing a third party while Chelsea is taking, will certainly be an important motivator.”
Never write out Chelsea
Sky Sport's Laura Hunter:
“Chelsea, who has been advanced in all five of their previous European quarter finals, must destroy a shortage to keep that impressive record intact.
“This is not a side that is familiar with losses or especially used to organizing comebacks. Does that make them more or less dangerous?
“Sonia Bompastor is in favor of control and authority and yet the Scoreline will require more a handbrake-off approach.” I know we have the quality to reverse the situation, but we will have to be at our best, “she said last week.
“Her 28-game unbeaten start as a blues coach may have ended by Miedema's double in the reverse leg, but it is far from the determined mentality of the French woman to avoid a challenge. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea has set up or remains patient in their pursuit.
“Bompastor's Lyon side broke back from a loss of the first legs to overcome Juventus on his way to Champions League Glory in 2021/22 – It can be done.
“The final phase of this four -part epic is perfectly ready.”
