Chelsea has been busy in the summer transfer window and Mamadou Sarr is one of the five players who have already arrived. The middle behind has courageously claimed that he wants to become a “leader” like Virgil van Dijk
Chelsea New Boy Mamadou Sarr loves Virgil van Dijk, but says he looks more like Ibrahima Konate. The 19-year-old arrived this summer at Stamford Bridge with a great reputation after a year of learning under Liam Rosenior in Strasbourg.
The France Youth International has taken many lessons from the emerging boss Rosenior who is in charge of one of Chelsea's family of clubs.
But SARR says that he has also viewed a lot of Liverpool defenders Van Dijk and Konate to learn from them while adapting to English football.
Sarr said: “I want to be like Virgil van Dijk. I love Van Dijk. But some people tell me that I play as Ibrahima Konate. It is similar. Van Dijk is a leader. It is important for a defender to be a leader. Off and on the field I talk a lot. It is an important task.
“I expect well. I can choose a good pass with the ball. But I came here to make progress. When I was young, I had a dream to be the best center back in the world.”
SARR has joined £ 12 million and has represented France at a series of youth level and is already being tipped to become a full international in the future.
The 6ft 4in defender is smart, enthusiastic and enthusiastic about his chance in the Premier League. He heard about Chelsea's interest halfway through last season and admits that it was impossible to reject the chance of playing in England.
“I knew about some interest in November, December,” said Sarr. “Then I had an idea in January that it was possible. When one of the biggest clubs comes to you, it is so exciting.”
Former Derby and Hull boss Rosenior, the former Brighton and Fulham defender, gets a huge reputation after his impressive work in Strasbourg. Rosenior says that SARR is a player with the “physique and characteristics” to reach the top. Rosenior also won SARR with his calm approach, coaching style and desire to improve young players.
Sarr said: “When I was a child, I had a dream and I trusted Liam Rosenior and he trusted me. He is a top coach. He believed in me. He taught me a lot about how I can defend better, how I can help the team better.
“It is important for me to train well, to talk to the coach, to talk to every player and to have trust in what I do. It's good for me to have competition. That will help me to be a better defender.”
SARR wants to help Chelsea win the World Cup Club after the open with a victory over Los Angeles and now plays Flamengo on Friday. Paris Saint Germain is probably the favorites of the tournament, but SARR believes that Chelsea can compete with the newly crowned European champions.
He added: “I played PSG twice last year. They are a very good team. Chelsea is a very good team. They are like PSG. We can compete with them. There are many similarities in the game and Chelsea can beat PSG.”
