Chiesa is ‘wanted by Italian giants with club pushing for loan deal in January’

One of Italy's biggest clubs is reportedly hoping to sign Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa on loan in January.

The Italian joined the Reds in a deal worth £10m this summer but has become somewhat of a forgotten man in recent months.

Chiesa has made just one Premier League appearance and has been left out of his side's five top-flight games.

And a move to the club could be on the cards as he hopes to regain fitness.

According to Tuttosport, Inter Milan are trying to sign him on a six-month loan deal in January.

Liverpool believed they had signed a player to add further depth in a forward line including Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo.

However, he has played just 78 minutes of football for the club after arriving with fitness problems.

Manager Arne Slot insisted last month that Chiesa's absence is due to the Italian missing pre-season training and continuing to work to match the intensity of the rest of Liverpool's squad.

'With Federico it's a little simpler; although it is more difficult, but it is a little easier to explain,” Slot said.

'He missed a complete pre-season, I've said that many times, and went to a league where the intensity is perhaps even higher than in the Italian league. We just faced the two Italian teams, so I can say this now.

'That makes it difficult for him to make the step to the intensity level that the rest of the team is currently at.

'That's not so much to do with the Italian league or the Premier League, it's more to do with missing a complete pre-season and that's so difficult for any player – when the games are there all the time – to build them up. to the level we are at.

'It's difficult to say, but it is a big disappointment for him that he is constantly in and out of training. I feel sorry for him.

'But he has signed a long-term contract, so we will see what he brings to us. But at the moment, unfortunately for him, he has been in the team selection once or twice and nothing more than that.'

Chiesa was seen as one of the poster boys of Italian football when he joined Juventus from Fiorentina.

The winger played a starring role as Italy were crowned European champions in 2021.

Chiesa's progress came to a halt when he suffered an ACL injury in 2022.
