Christian Eriksen linked with emotional transfer return – ‘Always an option’

Manchester United -midfielder Christian Eriksen is ready to leave Old Trafford as soon as his contract ends at the end of the season and could join his old club Ajax again

Christian Eriksen could get the chance to end his career at Ajax when the DANE leaves Manchester United this summer, the sports director of the club has unveiled. Midfield Maestro is no longer a contract at the end of the season and would be available for a free transfer.

Eriksen, 33, started his senior career at Ajax after he initially joined the youth setup of the Dutch Giants. He made a total of 162 performances and won Eredivisie three times before he was lured to the Premier League by Tottenham in the summer of 2013.

The former Inter Milan star is expected to be on the move at the end of a frustrating 2024-25 campaign that had only included 14 times in all competitions for United since the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November.

And Marijn Beuker, the sports director of Ajax, has confirmed that conversations have taken place internally in the club about making a play to bring Eriksen home.

“He is one of the players who has acted fantastic with us in the past that we think about”, the Hetold ESPN. “There will be multiples in the media. Other names mentioned are those of Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind.

“Such players are always an option. To look at it. However, it must fit in with the phase in which we are.

While Manchester United is currently upset in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Ajax enjoys a good season under Francesco Faroli and his nine points free from PSV Eindhoven on the Eredivisie -top if they are closing to a 37th domestic title.

Speculation about the future of Eriksen has been widespread in recent weeks after he recently confirmed to the Dutch Outlet TV2 that he had 'heard nothing' about a new contract with Old Trafford.

Eriksen said: “I didn't tell anything and because I didn't do that, I assume the collaboration will end. That's how I interpret it. Everyone knows that my contract is going, so I expect that there is only one way to go this.

“I didn't think much about it. In my mind I am willing to find something new. What that will be, I have not yet decided. I have nothing specific that I really want to try, so I will see what is coming and what suits me and my family.”
