Chuck Liddell shares theory on why no one has replaced Conor McGregor as UFC star four years after Irishman’s last fight

One of the biggest stars of his own era in sport, Chuck Liddell has his own theories about why no one has matched the star row of Conor McGregor, despite his UFC interruption.

Respected as the very first breakout star of the promotion in a mainstream sentence, Chuck Liddell enjoyed a memorable run as the light heavyweight champion during his notorious run in the Octagon in the 2000s.

And even inspiring Conor McGregor during his own start in sport, Liddell has a range of ideas about why in the past four years of his inactivity no one has succeeded in darkening the Dublin striker.

Liddell recently sat down with RG and nowadays shared his thoughts about the change in landscapes in the UFC compared to his splendor in the organization.

As far as he is concerned, the UFC can now be oversaturated with hunters, so that fans are left behind too much product to get a grip.

To start up, too many hunters are at least not necessarily enough enough to force the issue and to make the peloton stand out.

“There are guys who do just enough to win, don't try to bind themselves,” said Liddell.

“I think it is going back a bit to people who realize that when you're done fighting, you'll be more famous,” Liddell continued. “You will earn more money, whatever you motivate, so that people go back a bit to finishing fights.”

And although many have been advertised as the next Breakout star, Ilia Topuria has been advertised as the best candidate to take the baton of his rival McGregor.

In the same breath, however, Liddell has his own thoughts about whether the UFC actually needs another star to recover, if not to catch up, McGregor.

A much larger product in the modern era, compared to its time in sport, has reached the UFC more than the social spirit of the times.

And as far as Liddell is concerned, if a star in the same spirit will appear as a Conor McGregor – or even a Ronda Rousey – they will be in their own time.

Moreover, Liddell is doubtful whether a new large, Megastar is even needed in this era by the UFC.

'I don't know if she [the UFC] necessarily necessary [another big star]”Liddell said.

“But it's one of those things that will happen when they come.”
