City fans fume at their former defender Richards for comments about the FA Cup

Micah Richards pulled the anger of Manchester City fans with his comments during the BBCs FA Cup coverage.

The 36-year-old, who won the competition with Man City in 2011, worked for the Beeb as an expert during their reporting on the last-16 penalty shootout victory of Fulham on Manchester United.

The defeat in front of Ruben Amorim left the competition with only one Manchester club and no Liverpool in the quarterfinals. Liverpool was eliminated in the previous round by Plymouth Argyle – defeated the side city to guarantee their passage to the quarterfinals.

Chelsea is also out of the competition and lost to Brighton in the fourth round, while Arsenal left to Manchester United in round three.

During the coverage of the BBC, Richards analyzed the landscape of the tournament and implied that his former club, which has won the last four Premier League titles, did not belong to the heavyweights of England.

'It is now very open, what a chance for a team to win it. All major teams are out, “he told BBC Sport.

'Manchester City is clearly the strongest team that lags behind it. But this is what we wanted, teams to get a chance. '

Those comments fell badly with Man City fans with their former defender who was at the end of an online recoil.

“Request to strip the role of Micah Richards from the 'Club Ambassador' role and to transfer it to someone who really gives Manchester City,” a supporter shot on X.

'Micah Richards – not one of us. Hello @Mancity, delete this clown! Zero respect for the city, but still held the title … @micahrichards, remove 'ambassador' from your bio! Even Khusanov has a greater legacy than you in the city! 'Another added.

While a third fan placed: 'Someone has to start a petition to drop Micah Richards as a club ambassador because he certainly does not represent or form the club in any way. Who is with me?! '

The FA Cup represents the only chance of the city this season with the club from the Champions League, both domestic cups and 20 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League.

Manager Pep Guardiola has insisted that his focus is on winning the trophy.

“It's pretty new for us,” said Guardiola. 'It never happened in eight or nine years. That means we are not doing well. We are going to take free time to freshen up.

'It's about quality, not about quantity. We're going to train [for a] Really important game against forest. We will renew things and practice things. Lift the rhythm. Normally if you play every three days, you can't do that. '
