City to offer Haaland £100M package to stay after securing Guardiola’s new deal

Manchester City will reportedly step up their efforts to convince Erling Haaland to sign a new contract after persuading Pep Guardiola to stay at the club.

News broke on Tuesday that Guardiola has agreed to a one-year contract extension with City, with the option of a further 12 months, meaning he could stay at Etihad until 2027.

Attention now turns to retaining Haaland, who currently earns £20 million per season and has two and a half years left on his current contract.

According to The Sun, City want him to put pen to paper on a new contract so that he can stay at the club for at least another five years.

This would mean a total package of £100 million, without even taking bonuses into account.

Haaland was asked about Guardiola's future last week when he told reporters while on international duty: 'I hope Pep signs a new contract. He was important to me during the first two and a half years.

'I hope he stays longer. I like Pep a lot and I hope he likes me too.'

Guardiola has since agreed to stay at City, and the club's hierarchy will be hopeful Haaland follows his manager's lead.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, but City are keen to fend off interest in their star striker.

It is understood Guardiola's new deal – expected to be announced on Thursday – will not include a release clause if City are relegated, as the hearing into their 115 charges of alleged financial breaches continues.

Whether they can convince Haaland to agree to similar terms remains to be seen.

Haaland has flourished under Guardiola since signing for City in 2022, scoring 105 goals in 114 club appearances.

City won an unprecedented Treble in Haaland's first season and retained the Premier League title last season.

Haaland has claimed the Golden Boot in each of his two seasons in the Premier League and is on course to win the award again after scoring 12 goals in his first 11 league games in 2024/25.
