Clement: Rangers disappointed with draw against Spurs – and I like that spirit

Philippe Clement was buoyed by the hunger of his Rangers players after seeing their disappointment in the draw with Tottenham.

Rangers were denied by Dejan Kulusevski's strike 15 minutes from time after Hamza Igamane's goal had deservedly put them ahead early in the second half.

Fraser Forster made a great late save to deny Cyriel Dessers a winner, although Rangers were within the automatic qualification zone and continued their resurgence in form.

“Football is about wanting to win, that's what this club is about,” said Clement. “I saw the same thing in my dressing room and I'm glad they weren't happy with the draw.

“That is the right spirit, and we need that spirit in the coming weeks and months to grow as a club.

“They rose to the challenge, they took it and showed what we wanted them to show to everyone.

“I still leave with the feeling that we should have won. We deserved to win the game, but I think it was a really good advertisement for Scottish football to be competing at full strength against a Premier League team .

“I want that mentality within my team: they weren't satisfied with the point, they felt like they were very close to winning.”

Rangers were dealt a blow when centre-back John Souttar was sent off injured in the 35th minute ahead of Sunday's League Cup final against Celtic.

Clement said: “It's not a good thing if you have to get away in the first half, but we will find more in the coming days.”

Boyd: Rangers played very well

Kris Boyd on Sky Sports News:

“Philippe Clement will be the happier of the two managers. The financial gap between the two teams is absolutely enormous. That doesn't mean you can't get results, and Rangers have shown that.

“It took a great finish from Kulusevski when he came on to give Tottenham the equalizer, but Rangers caused problems all game long.

“They played really well and had some great individual performances there tonight. Hamza Igamane is completely shot at the moment. He got his goal but his all-round performance in terms of keeping the ball and getting his teammates in touch with him.

“Nicolas Raskin was excellent in the middle of the field. Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz. Yilmaz has not played much football.”
