Club World Cup success would be ‘cherry on the cake’ for PSG, says Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique says that Paris Saint-Germain who wins the club world cup would be the “Cherry on the Cake” after their high success.

PSG completed their Treble on Dominant Fashion on Saturday, with a record-breaking 5-0 win over Inter in the Champions League final in Munich.

It was their first Champions League title, in which Luis Enrique also only became the second manager who won a Treble with two different clubs (who also won with Barcelona in 2015), after Pep Guardiola (with Barcelona in 2009 and Manchester City in 2023).

However, the PSG season is not over yet, with the club World Cup quickly approaching – they start their campaign against Atletico Madrid in California on June 15.

And Luis Enrique has challenged his team to add another trophy to their cabinet to end their incredible season.

“The Club World Cup is an incredible competition, not yet the same as Champions League, but it will be something that the best teams in the world want to win,” said Luis Enrique.

“And we want to finish the season in style, and that would be the icing on the cake, and our fifth trophy this season, if we get it done.”

Luis Enrique also thanked the PSG supporters for their emotional tribute to his daughter Xana, who died of cancer in 2019 in nine years old.

The Spaniard wore a black shirt in honor of Xana during the game, and after the game the PSG fans unfolded a moving banner, who depicted his daughter who planted a club flag in the middle circle.

It was inspired by a photo of Luis Enrique and Xana, then five, who plant a Barcelona flag in the grass in 2015 after they had defeated Juventus in the Champions League final.

“It was very emotional,” Luis Enrique told reporters. “It was wonderful to think that the supporters thought of me and my family.

“I don't have to win a competition or the Champions League to think about my daughter.

“I think of her every day. She is with our family and I feel her presence even when we lose.

'Xana is always with us. We always think of her, we love her. We wear her in our hearts forever.

“I was happy with the banner, but I don't need a trophy to think about my daughter.”
