Colombia superstar James Rodriguez to leave Vallecano after just 5 months

Rayo Vallecano made waves in the transfer market this summer when they signed 2024 Copa America Player of the Tournament James Rodriguez on a free transfer after he left Sao Paulo in Brazil. However, the former Real Madrid star has not had the desired impact in Vallecas.

There was no shortage of people excited about his arrival, but Rodriguez failed to convince manager Inigo Perez of his value, while Oscar Trejo and Isi Palazon enjoyed game time ahead of him. Marca says Rayo and Rodriguez have agreed to terminate his contract, with the Colombian star giving up the 'promotional part' of his contract, which was worth around €1.2 million. His status changed after an interview with the same outlet, when he questioned the level of his teammates and the judgment of his manager, after which the club decided to end his time there.

Rodriguez provided one assist in his seven appearances for Rayo and made just two starts in total, one in La Liga and one in the Copa del Rey. Many saw Rodriguez's lack of commitment to pressure and desire to play a free role as major obstacles to Perez using him more often before the relationship soured.
