Barcelona is quickly running out of time to sign Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season. The Blaugrana used the emergency injury rule to register both with Andreas Christensen's Achilles problem, but now have just three weeks to find the money to do so without.
Players in Spain cannot register for one team twice per season. So if they don't do that within three weeks, Olmo and Victor will no longer be able to play for Barcelona this season on December 31. . It is a situation that is causing increasing concern within the club, although there is some confidence that president Joan Laporta will repeat his usual trick of raising the necessary money at the last minute.
According to Diario AS, Barcelona have not made any progress in the case in the past three months. The deal with Nike will help once it is approved, while the Blaugrana have also brought forward season ticket payments from January to December. Barcelona will also sell the rights to commercialize their VIP boxes at Camp Nou for the next twenty years, but the same outlet says that even with all these measures and a bank guarantee from the directors this will not be enough.
That's why Laporta is looking for a 'miracle investor', possibly from Qatar, where he has spent much of the past month trying to get things going. However, so far this has not been successful and it will be a last-minute operation.
The situation comes amid demands from opposition groups for greater transparency over the club's finances. Laporta has been criticized for putting aside the costs of his transfer business, but eventually that can will have to be collected and it appears Laporta is running out of options.
