While the two bitter rivals were waiting for Bruce Buffer to announce the official result of their matchup of December 2025, Conor McGregor noted that his opponent had been destroyed by what had just happened.

In response, the crazy Irishman briefly dropped his bad guy as promised to do a rematch with Aldo, in an attempt to improve the mood of the Brazilian.

“I'm sorry. We'll go again. We're going again,” he said with a thumb up.

McGregor quickly broke back in character for his interview after the fight with Joe Rogan, although he briefly expressed sympathy for his fallen enemy.

“Nobody can make that shot on the left,” said McGregor.

“I tell you, he is powerful and he is fast, but Precision defeats strength and timing beats speed.

“To be honest, I feel for Jose. He was a phenomenal champion and we deserved to go a little longer.

“But I feel that precision at the end of the day beats the power and beats the timing.

“So it would have happened sooner or later.”

What is the next step for Conor McGregor & Jose Aldo?

Of course McGregor did not succeed in recovering Aldo.

'Mystic Mac' had a double-test series with Nate Diaz before he went to lightweight, became a two-weight champion and set up a crossover match with Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor has not fought since he broke his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier on UFC 264 in July 2021.

Aldo eventually won his featherweight belt when McGregor was stripped of the title because of inactivity – but losing Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski ended his run on 145 pounds.

Aldo moved to Bantamweight, where he enjoyed a 4-3 point in the division that was taken over by Merab Dvalishvili.

'Scarface' will return for what his last performance in the Octagon could be when he is opposite Aiemann Zahabi on UFC 315 on Saturday evening.

Whatever happens, McGregor will certainly encourage Aldo, with whom he has developed an unlikely friendship in the decade since their historic UFC fight.
