Conor McGregor has revealed he wants to buy two football clubs – after billionaire tycoon Elon Musk was sensationally linked with Liverpool.
UFC superstar McGregor took to social media to announce his interest in taking over the unnamed clubs, but quickly deleted the post.
He claimed he would be willing to branch out on different sides of the League of Ireland.
Alongside a photo of himself posing with the FAI Trophy that Drogheda United won in November, McGregor wrote: 'How much does it cost to buy a League of Ireland team?
“Maybe I'll buy two.”
McGregor is the cousin of Drogheda striker Warren Davis. However, the club quickly distanced itself from 'Notorious', effectively ruling out a purchase.
In a statement posted online, the club said: 'Today a social media post has been brought to our attention regarding the FAI Cup.
'The people depicted are close to one of our players, who like all the other players held the cup to celebrate with their families at various intervals.
'Drogheda United does not associate us in any way with the person who posted the social media post, or with any unauthorized brands mentioned.'
McGregor, who is reportedly worth £200 million, recently appeared in court in Ireland after being accused of 'raping and assaulting' Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in 2018. He was ordered to pay more than £ 200,000 in damages after a jury found him. liable for abuse.
McGregor denies the allegations and could appeal the verdict to Dublin High Court.
His revelation comes after Musk, the owner of X, was linked to Liverpool.
Musk is the richest man in the world and is believed to be worth a whopping £340 billion, making a potential Anfield plunge just a drop in the ocean.
According to his father Errol, Musk is keen to invest in the Premier League giants.
Errol said on Times Radio: 'I can't comment on that, they will increase the price!'
'Oh yes, [he wants to buy the club]but that doesn't mean he buys it.'
Errol added: “He would like that, of course. Everyone would want that, including me.
'His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have family in Liverpool, and we were lucky enough to know quite a few of the Beatles, because they grew up with some of my family.'
However, Mail Sport revealed on Wednesday that Liverpool's owners have no intention of selling – and they have not received any approach from Musk.
It is believed that FSG is not interested in a sale.
