Conte ‘hurt’ by Juventus links after agreeing Napoli stay

Antonio Conte says that he was “wounded” by speculation that connects him with former club Juventus, after he agreed to stay as head coach of Napoli.

Conte led the partenopei to their second scudetto in the space of three seasons in the past term, whereby Inter has brought the top place in the first place on the last day of the campaign.

This led the 55-year-old to be associated with a return to former club Juventus, with whom he won three consecutive Series A titles between 2012 and 2014.

Conte reportedly had considered a second spell in Turin before he held transparent conversations with Napoli-President Aurelio de Laurentiis to tackle important issues.

The partenopei boss, who has been contracted for another two years in Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, insists that he never had contact with his former club.

“I didn't have contact with someone because I tried to contact me with third parties, I always answered that I would speak with the club at the end of the season, as always done,” he said Corriere della Sera.

“Only if the meeting was not satisfied with the parties, would I have been opened to another situation, anyway had a contract with Napoli.”

In his discussion with the Laurentiis, he added: “In our meeting we clarified things, talking was fundamentally. He understood the mistakes or, in any case, the situations that need to be improved.

“I have a contract and the clarification was the most important point. The rest were rumors that hurt. They did not take into account how I am.”

When they take coaches to monitor at least 70 Series A matches, Conte has the highest points per game ratio in the history of the competition, at 2.24, for Massimiliano Allegri (2.0), Simone Inzaghi (1.98), Fabio Capello (1.97) and Rudi Garcia (1.96).

Napoli has already strengthened Conte's Ploeg prior to the title defense of the following season, in which Kevin De Bruyne participates in a free transfer from Manchester City.

Jonathan David is said to be important, while Jhon Duran is another attacker who is linked.
