Conte lauds Napoli response in ‘deserved’ Fiorentina victory

Antonio Conte praised his napoli players for how they responded quickly after a lead of two goals in their 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku opened the score in the first half before Giacomo Raspadori doubled Napoli's benefit on the hour when they saw in it to illuminate the victory.

Albert Gudmundsson, however, halved the shortage six minutes after Raspadori's strike, but Conte's Kant was able to put their profit -free run in the Serie A.

Napoli, who has scored and admitted in both their last eight league matches, won a league match against Juventus for the first time since January 25.

Inter had opened a four-point gap on the top of the rankings after their 3-2 victory over Monza on Saturday, but Conte's team made sure they stayed in the title race.

“I am very satisfied with the performance and reaction of the team,” Conte told reporters.

“In a growth path it is normal that after having made so much and reaching 2-0 after 60-65 minutes, which gives a goal, can generate excessive fear.

“You have to be good at managing, cooling the moment and keeping the ball more, keep doing things in the right way without giving up dangerous situations. The boys did well. I am happy.”

Napoli set up a dominant show, despite the Scoreline, which ended the game with an expected goals (XG) total of 2.88 of their 19 shots to Fiorentina's 1.14.

They were sent on the way by Lukaku, who has now been involved in five goals in his last four Serie A -performances against Fiorentina (three goals and two assists).

The Belgian is the fourth player who scored at least five goals, both at home and road in the Serie A this period, after Mateo Retegui, Marcus Thuram and breathola Lookman.

But Conte said that his team should be more relentless this season in their search for the Scudetto, after having wasted a number of opportunities on their most recent meeting.

“We have not taken any big risks and the victory has been earned for what we have created,” said Conte.

“We have scored less than we produced and this does not satisfy me, because you dominate the opponent in certain games and you don't only go to half time on 1-0.

“It only costs one episode and you can lose points.”

Napoli is fighting unexpectedly this season for a competition title, in which the club sells Star Vleugel Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January and is now without the wounded Andre Anguisissa and David Neres.

“The team is so normal about what is not, I have to underline that,” said Conte.

“Wounded players are missing, it's normal, our best player leaves, it's normal.

“The boys do a great job in finding alternative solutions, have trust next time and let me do things without saying 4-3-3 or something else.

“It is easy to win the bet when you place it after the event.”
