After signing Gerard Martin, Ronald Araujo, Gavi and Pedri for new deals in the last week of January, and then agreed the extensions with veterans Inigo Martinez and Robert Lewandowski, the contract situation with Frenkie de Jong is still more striking in Barcelona. The Dutchman is from the contract in 2026, and the Blaugrana wants to sign him for a new deal or sell him before the end of this summer.
Barcelona had made him an offer last season, including a considerable wage reduction, but De Jong did not respond to the offer because he evaluated his options. With De Jong who picks up the team and struggled with an ankle injury in November, the Blaugrana decided to withdraw that offer from the table. The return of De Jong to form and an increase in playing time under Hansi Flick has the Dutchman, who now has a renewed wish to stay in Barcelona.
Yet Marca says that there has been no contact between the agents of Barcelona and De Jong. A burial silence remains between the two parties, and there is no sign that it will be broken every moment in the near future.
However, a route map has been drawn up for the coming months. Barcelona is not going to have De Jong leave for free in 2026 and to predict that contract discussions will only start in the summer as soon as the season is ready.
