Dricus du Plessis was a huge fighting fan before he became a UFC -Superster.

The middleweight champion will put its title at stake in a long -awaited rematch with Sean Strickland on UFC 312, which will take place this weekend in Sydney, Australia.

'DDP' took a controversial profit from the split to become UFC champion when they fought for the first time last year.

Since then he has smothered Israel Adesanya to defend his belt and earn a place next to Islam Makhachev and Jon Jones on the UFC-Voor-Pond list.

Dricus Du Plessis calls his favorite MMA film

By 2008, Dricus Du Plessis was already a huge fan of mixed martial arts.

Everything changed after he had watched the movie never to go back.

The film follows a fast high school student, Jake, who is pushed into a fight with an MMA champion. After losing, the teenager undergoes training to take revenge on his rival.

Never back was made up by critics, but it has developed a cult over the years.

Du Plessis thought it was great. He even says that the film has transformed him from a fan into a wannabe hunter.

“I was so in the sport I watched, fight films,” he told Demetrious Johnson.

“I have always tried the submissions. I don't know, never back was a movie that came out when I was 14. That was the film that motivated me to become a professional MMA hunter.

“I had something like:” This is the coolest ever. ” This man beats up his enemy, he gets the hot girl, this is it, I want to do this. That was the spark of the phase, but it never left. '

Dricus Du Plessis outlines his ultimate goals

Du Plessis has already completed an incredible journey from fan to prospect to champion of the world.

Yet he has many important goals that he wants to achieve before he calls time on his career as a hunter.

“Even before the UFC, I believe you have an ultimate goal and that is your Rijf factor,” said Du Plessis.

“I also want to go upstairs and get another belt. And in the end I want to be seen as the greatest hunter ever running on this earth. That is my ultimate goal and that is what keeps me going, regardless of what you achieve.

“That is a legacy that you build on during your entire career, so that is my motivation and that is what I pursue. I can't wait for what 2025 holds. “
