Thibaut Courtois has taken positives from the heavy defeat from Real Madrid to Paris Saint-Germain, which suggests that the setback could serve as a motivation for the club to keep improving.
The hope of Los Blancos to reach the FIFA Club World Cup final was deposited after a 4-0 semi-final defeat for the ruling UEFA Champions League holders.
A first half brace from Fabián Ruiz, together with goals from Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos, the Parisians sent on Wednesday evening to the victory on the side of Xabi Alonso in Metlife Stadium.
While he thinks about where the Spanish giants shot shortly on the side of Luis Enrique, the Belgian international believes that Real Madrid can use the disappointment as a catalyst for growth.
“They (PSG) always start very strongly and with a lot of pressure up high. We don't have the coach's plan looking for space for the front,” Courtois told the media.
“We struggled to hold our position and they thought the free man was very good. They created a lot of danger, especially in the first half.
“In the second half they stopped pressing and we had more chances, but we didn't score. The first two goals kill the game a bit and they were comfortable.
“It is a tough defeat, but a defeat to learn from. We are on the right track and sometimes a setback like this is good for you to keep improving, to know that there is a lot of work ahead and that we can get better.
“We have to reach their level; they have won the Champions League and they have been very good in this tournament. We have to work next season.”
Before their fatal collision with PSG, Real Madrid had never lost a Club World Cup match, in which 15 of their last 16 games in the competition since 2014 were won. Their only slip during that piece was a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in this year's group stage.

To the question why their game plan fails against the Ligue 1 -side, the former Chelsea star replied: “This is something that should be analyzed in the video. From my point of view we were not a bit off. The moment you are too late, everyone is out of position.
“They defeated you at speed because they are moving forward and you have to turn and you lose time. We were not very close to them and that was the problem.
“If you are spread on the field and with so much space, against a good team like them, it is difficult.”
