Coventry City 0-0 Hull City: Lampard’s side held to goalless draw on opening day

Coventry and Hull pulled a blank during the opening weekend of the Sky Bet Championship season when their collision in the Coventry Building Society Arena ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

The closest to breaking the impasse was when the long -distance effort of Milan van Ewijk met the woodwork for the hosts in the second half.

The result represents a considerable return for the Tigers, who went through a chaotic summer that she saw briefly under a transfer bargo.

Coventry started clearly and led almost in the third minute when Tatsuhiro Sakamoto bowed a low effort from the far -off pole from just outside the area.

Jack Rudoni then seemed to have a clear view of the goal of Victor Torp's Pass, but Hull Captain Charlie Hughes came across to make an excellent block when distracting the ball behind.

The Sky Blues continued to threaten when a Pinpoint Pass made of Jay Dasilva Torp in the area and the Dane turned the ball down before Rudoni whose shot was bent wide.

Although they did not constitute much of an attacking threat, Hull managed to drive away, which had been a difficult first 20 minutes before they kept their hosts more comfortable remotely.

On a long throw from Van Ewijk she almost opened in the 32nd minute when Rudoni got at the end, but Hull -goalkeeper Ivor Pandur held his main attempt.

Regan Slater had a rare first half opening for the visitors four minutes before the break when he went into the area to mislead his shot terribly wide.

Hull then had a good chance of continuing in the first minute of the second half when Abu Kamara ran Cody Drameh on the right and directly to Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, despite teammates, spoke despite teammates who came to support.

Van Ewijk came close to a brilliant opener in front of the Sky Blues in the 53rd minute when his stunning effort crashed from outside the box against the corner of the post and the bar.

Hull continued to deny their hosts clear openings, in which Coventry boss Frank Lampard replaced the ineffective Ephron Mason-Clark with Haji Wright in an attempt to find a breakthrough.

The home fans thought they were finally about to have after 77 minutes, but the header of Liam Kitching from Torp's Corner was directly at Pandur.
