Coventry City 1-0 Queens Park Rangers: Bobby Thomas scores stoppage-time winner for Sky Blues

Bobby Thomas scored a winner in the fourth minute of the stopping time when Coventry QPR beat 1-0 in the CBS Arena.

The match seemed to be on the way to stalemate when Thomas nodded in from Jack Rudoni's corner to earn the men of Frank Lampard a fifth victory in six league outings.

The Sky Blues had won four games in a row until their run was abruptly stopped by Leeds, before they were hit 4-1 on Saturday by Premier League Ippswich in the FA Cup.

Only the top four games had taken more points than Rangers and the Sky Blues in the last 20 games, because both parties reversed their misery in the early season.

They came in the collision on points, with only four goals between them.

Michael Frey had the best chance of the evening for the men of Marti Cifuentes when he was selected by the beautifully weighed cross of Kenneth Paal, but his effort was thwarted by the vast Oliver Dovin in the Coventry goal.

Ilias Chair had a heavy hand in the move when his improvisation pole put left and the Moroccan then forced Dovin to turn his efforts to turn a pole and focused on the goal.

It was a busy night for Dovin, who also acrobatically struck Paul Smyth's efforts in the first half.

Jack Colback made his first hoops start since September after he scored the winner previous time-out against Blackburn and he shot an attempt wide after a well-processed corner.

Matt Grimes forced QPR goalkeeper Paul Nardi in his best stop of the evening before the Frenchman was quickly finished to nip the follow-up of Ellis Simms.

Rudoni should have done better when he was chosen by the cutback of Victor Torp, while the bent attempt by Torp had to be treated by Nardi with Simms lurking for a rebound.

Coventry had the ball in the net with less than 10 minutes to go, but the celebrations of Tatsuhiro Sakamoto were demolished by the linesman.

But they did not have to be denied when Thomas is the highest lept to meet Rudoni's hanging corner and to secure Coventry three valuable points in their search for the play-offs.
