Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly had a rather tense relationship with one of his teammates during his second spell at Manchester United.
The Portuguese made an emotional return to Old Trafford in 2021, 12 years after leaving the club to join Real Madrid. Ronaldo had won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Champions League during his first spell under Sir Alex Ferguson.
But he returned to the Red Devils squad in a very different form and eventually left dramatically in 2022 after an impressive interview in which he took aim at the state of the club, which was led by Erik ten Hag at the time.
The 39-year-old often appeared irritated during his second spell in Manchester, with the results on the pitch providing ample justification for his perceived mood. And according to The Telegraph, his frustrations even spilled over to his former teammate Harry Maguire.
The outlet claims Ronaldo was unimpressed with the then United captain and often rolled his eyes when the England international held team talks.
Maguire lost the armband to Bruno Fernandes the following season after a string of poor performances and looked set to leave.
But he has managed to gain the trust of new boss Ruben Amorim and was rewarded with a one-year contract extension earlier this month.
“Now no one rolls their eyes in that dressing room” when he speaks as Ronaldo “was known to do,” the outlet quotes a source.
Maguire recently spoke about the demands of working under Ronaldo's compatriot at Old Trafford.
“Yes, he (Amorim) is very demanding,” Maguire said. 'Ruben said to me that when it happened to him that I had an option (to extend my contract), that was not a good idea.
“It has given me the confidence and belief that they want me at the club and to be part of this project. I'm happy to be here. I want this club to fight for titles again and not fight where we are now. We still have a long way to go.'
After a run of four defeats on the trot, United drew with Liverpool at Anfield before beating Arsenal on penalties in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
