Crystal Palace approach Chelsea over loan deal for Ben Chilwell

Crystal Palace has contacted Chelsea with regard to a possible loan movement for Ben Chilwell.

The 28-year-old is seen as something of a last resort for Palace, because they focus primarily on a left-sided center-back.

It is possible that Palace turns closer to Deadline Day closer to Chilwell on Monday, with conversations about how much it would cost to get it on loan.

Chilwell wants to play regularly while he wants to prevent the prospect from going on the outskirts for an entire season.

So far, Chilwell has only made one performance for Chelsea this season – he played 45 minutes against Barrow in the third round of the Carabao Cup in September.

Although his contract with Stamford Bridge runs until 2027, Chilwell is not part of the plans of Enzo Maresca.

Chilwell has been covered 21 times by England, but has not been seen in front of his country since March 2024.

Last summer, Chelsea was unable to secure a step from the club for Chilwell, even though he did not fit the desired style of Maresca for a full-back.

He came to Chelsea from Leicester in 2020 for a fee of £ 50 million.

Chilsea's FA Cup was omitted against Morecambe last month outside Chelsea's FA Cup, because the blues did not want to risk being injured in a possible movement.

In total he made 107 performances for Chelsea and scored nine goals.

He was part of the Chelsea team that won the Champions League in the 2020-21 campaign.

Tyrick Mitchell is Palace's first choice at the left wing base, but Chilwell would offer them an alternative option if a deal would continue.

Palace is in action on Sunday when they get away opposite Manchester United.

So far, Palace has made an important signature in this transfer window, in which Romain Esse participated in Millwall.

Esse scored last campaign on his debut for Palace in the 2-1 defeat against Brentford.
