Cucurella heartbreakingly opens up on son’s autism

Chelsea star Marc Cucurella has opened the autism of his son and the challenges it forms in daily life.

Cucurella, 26, enjoyed an impressive 12 months and won Euro 2024 with Spain, while the defender has also developed into a crucial player for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca.

The Spaniard, who came through the ranks in Barcelona before he shone for Getafe and then Brighton, has three children with his partner Claudia Rodriguez: Mateo, Rio and Claudia.

Cucurella has previously revealed how the oldest Mateo autism has, and in a sincere interview at the La Media Inglesa channel, the 26-year-old thought about the diagnosis of his son and how the family deals with the situation.

“In Brighton he was still small,” said Cucurella. “The doctor didn't tell us what he had, he was still too young to know.

“It's difficult. Nobody will teach you how to become a parent, but in the end you see.

'An autistic child does not understand things like his brothers and sisters, you must learn to understand him.

“It influences him a lot, you don't see him well and you don't know how to help him. He did not do well at the regular school, he got upset, he was not happy. He did not adjust himself, he continued to cry all the time.

“He would spend two or three hours and he didn't like it, we had to go. That also has a lot of influence on you, you don't see your child well and you don't know how to help him. '

Cucurella and Rodriguez found out that Mateo came to Chelsea for £ 65 million shortly after the left side was autistic in the summer of 2022.

The Spaniard, however, has passed a difficult start of his time at Stamford Bridge, where he struggled for Gametime and was also confronted with questions about the price tag on his head.

And Cucurella opened about how he had to dig deeply to overcome the challenges in both his professional and private life.

“Football did not go well,” he added. 'We could not find a way to help him until we found another school in London and we have improved a lot.

'They help us there, we have conversations, you learn how to deal with it and you understand. He makes himself understood, but you have to get to know him. '

Despite the adversity, Cucurella went on the satisfaction he feels when he sees Mateo progressing ahead.

He explained: 'There is a disadvantage. Everything is more difficult, everything is more difficult.

“But there is also a good side. When you achieve something, a simple step forward, this gives much more satisfaction. '

Cucurella, who played for Chelsea 25 times this season, returns to action on Monday when the Blues West Ham Entertaines in the Premier League.
