Manchester United hopes to complete a transfer for Wolves star Matheus Cunha and the Brazilian is ready for the top according to teammate Matt Doherty at Molineux
Matheus Cunha will soon play in the Champions League according to teammate Matt Doherty van de Wolves Star. The Brazilian striker attracts a lot of transfer interest after an impressive season in Molineux, where Manchester United plans to make a bid.
But the Red Devils will have a difficult task to secure a place in the Champions League. Ruben Amorim's side is 14th in the Premier League and two points behind Wolves.
However, they have a chance thanks to their progress in Europe. If they beat Athletic Bilbao and continue to win the final of the Europa League, they can earn a place in the largest competition of the continent.
United has made Cunha a primary target and can activate a release clause of £ 62.5 million. The 25-year-old seems to get up to leave the Midlands, despite the extension of his contract earlier this year.
And Doherty does not doubt that Cunha will reach the top. The defender thinks that his attacking teammate is able to start realizing his potential after leaving Atletico Madrid.
Doherty said: “Sometimes it takes you to leave a place to find yourself, to realize what to do, perhaps to return to a place. Because he should play for Atletico for week in, week out.
“That is not the case, but I am pretty sure that he will play conceivably at the highest level – Champions League, things like that – fairly quickly. Huge, enormous potential.”
United would like to supplement their forward line in the coming transfer window. Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap are linked to movements to Old Trafford, while the sporty CP Ace Viktor Gyokeres remains connected to former boss Amorim.
The Portuguese coach is adamant that he only wants to see players who want to play for the club, instead of in a match for which they have qualified. Asked for Gyokees this week Amorim said: “I didn't talk to him.
“But if a player only wants to come to Manchester United to play Champions League, then he will not come. We want players who want to represent United, not players who want to play certain competitions.”
Amorim does not believe that success in Europe is exchanging this term the season of United. “We know that nothing will save our season,” said the 40-year-old. “But this can be huge.
“Winning a trophy to get to the Champions League to play European games next season can change many things in our club in the summer. But it's not the most important thing.”
