Real Oviedo has former Manchester United star Eric Bailly with a new house after his contract with Villarreal had ended in the summer to have him search for a club again
Former Manchester United star Eric Bailly has signed for La Liga -side Real Oviedo. The move marks the third other club to which the Ivory Coast International has joined since he made his exit from Old Trafford in 2023.
Bailly, 31, has signed a two-year deal with the newly promoted club, which earned their place in the top flight with the help of inspiring ex-Arsenale favorite Santi Cazorla. Bailly joins himself after his new party had sustained a defeat of the opening day with his former employers Villarreal.
The central defender left the yellow submarine when his deal with the club expired at the end of last season, after a return of 18 months to the Estadi de la Ceramica. The 49-CAP International only played 12 times in La Liga for Villarreal in the past term and was more often the substitute than not for his exit.
The side of La Liga offered him a home after he had seen his move to Besiktas of Manchester United, turns out to be a failure. Bailly was released a year earlier from his contract with United to make the switch to Turkey with a free transfer.
After eight performances and a hamstring problem, Bailly noticed that he had gone aside before the transfer window of January even arrived and was banned after collision with his own teammate, Tayfur Bingol, during the collision of Besiktas' League at Antalyaspor. The center half was one of the five players omitted from first team plans before his contract was torn.
Bailly revealed that a curse was placed on him by an agent who claimed that he owed money after the player's move to Besiktas. The agent is said to have sent a message to Bailly during the 3-1 defeat of Besiktas against Fenerbahce, a match in which Bailly was punished for handball and admitted a penalty.
A message from the agent was: “I am happy to see what my curse does to you. You are not a man. You are a big Mickey Mouse.”
But at least things now seem to look for Bailly. The veteran quickly welcomed himself by his new club and hopes to have a quick impact.
“It was not difficult to get here,” he said in his presentation. “The most important thing for me is that they are interested in showing you, and I liked the project from the start. I am really looking forward to starting.
“I feel good. In a short time there is an important match and I hope to be ready.”
“I am very enthusiastic about the team and its history,” he added. “They have achieved something very important with the promotion, and I am here to give everything.”
