According to athletics, tickets for the FIFA Club World Cup semi -final between Chelsea and Fluminense, originally priced at $ 473.90, three days before the kick -off, were only reduced to $ 13.40 to just $ 13.40.
This drastic price reduction is the last attempt by FIFA to stimulate the presence at the extensive Club World Cup, in which President Gianni Infantino decided to prove the viability of the tournament for clubs, broadcasters and sponsors. It is remarkable that the Snijprijs Ticket was even cheaper than a cheese steak ($ 15) or a beer ($ 14) in the Metlife Stadium, where the competition will be held. Premium lower seats were also reduced to $ 44.60.
The athletics reported proof that FIFA e-mailed volunteers last week, offered a maximum of four free tickets for all quarterfinals last week, except Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund. Although welcomed by many volunteers, this movement moved eyebrows, as they were initially told during the training that they would not receive free tickets. Volunteers were also asked not to wear uniforms while attending, apparently to prevent confusing paying fans – although some speculate that it was to make the grandstands look more full with “normal” spectators. FIFA refused to comment on this.
Ticket sales of the tournament are handled via Ticketmaster, where FIFA uses a dynamic price determination system that has seen the prices fluctuate sharply, usually down. Tickets for Chelsea vs Fluminense were for example:
• $ 473.90 on Wednesday
• Daddied to $ 44.60 by Friday afternoon
• Further reduced to $ 27.90 on Saturday morning
• And on Saturday afternoon at $ 13.40
This means that fans who waited, only 2.8% of the price that others had paid three days earlier. FIFA has not tackled or received early buyers restitutions or compensation.
Both semi -final are set for Metlife Stadium. The second semi-final-the filling of PSG versus real madrid or dortmund-dragged fluctuations. The standard ticket price was $ 978 on Wednesday, fell to $ 199.60 by Saturday afternoon and then briefly stuck to $ 266.60 after PSG defeated Bayern before he dropped again.
The steep reductions suggest that FIFA overestimates the demand for the extensive competition. While group stage competitions were on average more than 35,000 attendees, some luminaires had large parts of empty seats. Quarter-final tickets were also heavily discounted-bombard to as low as $ 11-with PSG vs Bayern's prices lowered to $ 44. That competition attracted 66,937 fans and filled 89% of the location. Chelsea vs Palmeiras reached 95% capacity, while Fluminense's victory over Hilal was 66% present.
Even before the tournament started, FIFA reportedly feared a bad turnout. The Athletic noted that FIFA spent more than $ 50 million on marketing, including social media campaigns and influencer partnerships. To fill seats for the Inter Miami opening match against Al Ahly, FIFA offered students from a partner university tickets for $ 20 each and a maximum of four extra free tickets per person.
The ticket prices of Inter Miami decreased from a highlight of $ 349 after the Draw in December to $ 230 in January, and then halved to $ 55 a week before the kick -off.
FIFA confirmed plans to continue the dynamic prices for next year's World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico. In response to athletics, FIFA said:
“Volunteers are an integral part of the success of every FIFA tournament. Where possible, they invite for competitions such as a gesture of appreciation is common. We are proud of the 8,000 volunteers who support the first extensive club world cup.”
“As mentioned earlier, the public ticket sales have used dynamic prices for this tournament since opening at the end of 2024, where prices are adjusted based on demand and availability in line with local market practices and regulations.”
