Dana White hints at title shot for undefeated UFC 319 star after ‘coming out party’ knockout win

Dana White suggested that Lerone Murphy would get a title shot after his Show-Stelen UFC 319 victory.

The 17-0-1 featherweight candidate flew under the radar for MMA's most important promotion for most of his time.

Despite the slow climbing of the 145 pound ranks, Joe Rogan claimed that Murphy was overlooked by fans who 'do not know him' for his UFC 319 Co-Main Event Clash with Aaron Pico.

Dana White Drops Title Shot Hint

Lerone Murphy called for a featherweight title shot during his interview after the fight with Joe Rogan.

145LB King Alexander Volkanovski mentioned his next opponent and fight date according to the UFC 319 Co-Headliner.

“See you in December @Leronemurphy Congratulations #UFC319,” Tweete Volkanovski.

Shortly thereafter, Dana White was asked if Volkanovski vs. Murphy was almost guaranteed during his press conference after the fight.

“Yes,” he said. “It is a strange thing to say with a man who has a record as he has, and is where he is in the division, that tonight was a kind of coming-out party for him. But it was certainly.”

“I think it's great,” he added when he was told about Volkanovsky's wish to fight Murphy in December.

Who are the other featherweight contenders?

Movsar Evloev is the number one featherweight candidate after collecting a 19-0 MMA record.

The unbeaten Russian was supposed to fight against Aaron Pico last month, but an injury derailed their UFC Abu Dhabi matchup, which gave Lerone Murphy the chance to take a career-best victory over a three-week notice period.

Diego Lopes and Jean Silva meet on September 13 in a top-of-the-division collision at Noche UFC.

Then Brian Ortega will fight Aljamain Sterling when the UFC returns to Shanghai, China on August 23.

The featherweight quartet will have to do something special to struggle away the Murphy title chances after UFC 319.
