Dana White refused to declare Daniel Cormier UFC’s ‘real champion’ over Jon Jones after he stopped light heavyweight boogeyman

Daniel Cormier was the most important beneficiary of the UFC suspension of Jon Jones in 2015 when he won the vacant light heavyweight title on UFC 187.

Daniel Cormier perishes as one of the most undervalued UFC champions of all time, after he has completed the performance to become a double champion in the promotion.

Not only that, but his rivalry with Jon Jones will also fall as one of the greatest rivalry in combat sport history, where the two continue to tjilpen online today.

And it was because of Jones that Cormier won his first title in the UFC after 'Bones' was made with a huge suspension that led to 'DC' fighting for the empty title.

Daniel Cormier benefited from Jones Suspension

Jones was planned on May 23, 2015 to defend his title against Anthony Johnson on UFC 187, but only a few weeks before fighting evening the light heavyweight champion was beaten with a suspension and stripped of his title after a hit-and-run incident.

Cormier would compete against Ryan Bader on 6 June, but after the suspension of Jones, Cormier was promoted to fight for the empty title against 'Rumble' Johnson.

Early in the fight, Cormier was hit with a huge upper hand of the supernatural Johnson, who temporarily plant him with a face before he got up again.

Johnson continued to throw a barrage of strikes to Cormier, but 'DC' threw up wisely with 'Rumble' and managed to recover from the early knockdown.

For the rest of the round, Cormier Johnson controlled the fence and then in round two, the hard-hitter hit the ground after scoring different Takedowns.

And then in round three, Cormier took the back of Johnson and concluded a crushing rear-coke to become the new UFC-light heavyweight champion.

“Joe Rogan, no lack of respect for you or the 16,000 people in the Arena, but I have a message for one man. Jon Jones, you get S – I am waiting for you together,” said Cormier in his Octagon interview with Joe Rogan immediately after the fight.

Dana White refused to explain Daniel Cormier 'The Real Champion' after title win

Although Cormier won the empty title, fans were not willing to explain him as the real light heavyweight champion, given that he did not defeat Jones to claim it.

And after the fight, UFC boss Dana White supported the fans and claimed that he was also a strong supporter of that idea.

“I understand (that people will not call him that) and I am also a believer in that to be the man, you have to beat the man, I absolutely believe in that, but unfortunately the man now has some problems and Cormier is the man,” White told Ariel Helwani.

Cormier defended the title three times before removing the recurring Jones on UFC 214, which again resulted in controversy because it was ruled a no-contest after Jones had positive a forbidden substance, which stripped the title.
