Dana White reveals how close Derrick Lewis is to a heavyweight title fight following UFC Nashville win

The UFC Heavyweight Division screams for some new contenders while Derrick Lewis is retained his place in the top 10.

Last weekend the Premier promotion returned to Tennessee for UFC Nashville, with the head of heavyweight contenders Derrick Lewis and Tallison Teixeira.

'The Black Beast' continued with the relatively simple work of the Brazilian giant and ended him with 35 seconds from the first round, despite the fact that the interruption was somewhat controversial.

After his victory, Lewis shared a phone call with US President Donald Trump, celebrating his victory in the Octagon.

Dana White about how dense Lewis is for a heavyweight title shot

A few weeks ago it was finally announced by the UFC boss Dana White that the heavyweight Saga, including Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones, finally ended after Jones announced his retirement.

Since then things have changed somewhat because Jones has already plagued a potential comeback to the sport, revealing that he is already back in the test pool.

Nevertheless, with Aspinall who now rules as the undisputed champion, he wants to keep the heavyweight division in motion and he will probably not wait until 'bones' return and defend his title against someone else.

And with that, after Lewis' victory on Saturday, White admitted that the former title -secondly, was potentially only one win from gaining a different title shot.

“I think that is the way the heavyweight division has always been, I mean, these guys don't have to cut (weight), some of them have to cut, but they don't have to reduce much weight,” White began to explain during the press conference after the fight.

“A fight can turn around with one blow, who lands that big shot, and they both tried to land them and he got him, I thought the interruption was a bit fast, you know, but it is what it is,” White went on.

Former UFC champion claims that Aspinall vs Lewis could happen afterwards

As we have seen in many situations in the past, Timing is everything when it comes to who gets a title shot and who is not.

Former UFC champion Chris Weidman believes that the UFC could then make the fight between Aspinall and Lewis, and it would act as a temporary designation for Aspinall vs Jones later next year in the White House.

White confirmed that plans to do a UFC show in the White House next year will be legitimate next year and that he will fly next week to have a meeting with Trump to discuss the logistics of the event.
