Dani Olmo and Pau Victor unlikely to feature for Barcelona in Spanish Supercup

Barcelona have this week named both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in their squad for the Spanish Super Cup, with the team traveling to Saudi Arabia on Monday evening. However, it is unlikely that the Blaugrana will be able to use either.

Neither is currently registered with the club, and after La Liga rejected Barcelona's license request, neither can play for the remainder of the season. However, Barcelona remain confident that they can obtain an injunction to at least temporarily overturn that decision. Yet it is described by Cadena Cope as 'almost impossible' for both to feature in the Spanish Super Cup.

Barcelona will seek an emergency order from the Ministry of Sports (CSD) on Tuesday, which is likely to take around five days, and if it goes in their favor could see Flick use Olmo and Victor in the Supercup final on Sunday night. However, if the CSD does not consider the matter urgent, this could take up to fifteen days, TV3 explains.

The CSD will have to decide whether the 28 million euros in guarantees requested by La Liga, which did not arrive before the banks closed on December 31, qualify as force majeure to overturn La Liga's decision, or, in the event of granting an order, whether these are reasons to argue it. MD also notes that Barcelona will try to argue that the spirit of the rule does not apply to the Olmo and Victor case, following guidance from the RFEF.

Flick's team will face Athletic Club in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening, and should they overcome Los Leones, they will meet RCD Mallorca or Real Madrid in the final. With an already thin squad at their disposal, the loss of Victor and Olmo leaves the Blaugrana without resources this week, but it looks like deciding their future for the rest of the season could be decisive for their campaign.
