Barcelona have remained confident that Dani Olmo and Pau Victor will be registered sooner or later, while La Liga has remained largely silent on the matter. But with the Blaugrana assuring that the matter would be resolved on Friday, it has been reported that La Liga has no intention of signing Olmo or Victor and leaving them as free agents.
But on Friday evening, Barcelona president Joan Laporta perhaps indicated why he and Barcelona had so much confidence. He shared his WhatsApp status at 9:19pm CEST and then deleted a text message apparently from the RFEF. It appears to support Barcelona's claim that Olmo and Pau Victor have registered, although there are few options to verify the text.
The text, as shared by Gerard Romero on Jijantes, states the following.
“The RFEF, having heard the arguments of the FCB, agrees that art. 130.2 The RFEF Regulation does NOT apply to the Dani Olmo/Pau Víctor case, as in the said case the withdrawal of said players took place not due to the will of the club (as provided for in this article), but due to factors outside and contrary to the will of the club. There is no doubt that both the club and the players want to remain in the FCB selection for the entire season. This interpretation of the rule is consistent with the obvious purpose of the said article, which is to promote the stability of the composition of the playing teams, so that…”
From here it is less clear what will happen. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is responsible for approving player licenses, but only does so on instructions from La Liga, something that has yet to happen.
If neither player is registered, they are both free agents and Barcelona are in danger. The club appear to be considering a mutual termination of their contracts and then make an attempt to retain Victor and Olmo in the summer if that happens. However, the club has maintained a strong stance that they are confident both will be registered, and are likely to take the matter to court before that happens.
