Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen agree to potential season-ending showdown ahead of The Ultimate Fighter 33

UFC Hall of Famers Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonen want to collide at the end of the coming season of the Ultimate Fighter.

Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen are removed from their MMA pension fights for years. But for their coaching collision at the Ultimate Fighter 33, Cormier and Sonnen have a solution for the tradition of the end of the season of the opposite coaches who compete against each other in the cage.

Cormier and Sonnen return to the corners on Tuf 33, who will debut later this year. In the past, both Cormier and Sonnen have experience with coaching on Tuf with Cormier who recently competes against Stipe Miocic on TUF 27.

Cormier and Sonnen recently received their gratings for TUF 33, and both legends will have a prominent welterweight hunter at their coaching staff. Instead of a potential Cormier vs. Sonnen fight at the end of the season, the two Hall of Famers came up with an interesting idea for the final.

Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen Pitchen a show-ending battle between assistant coaches

During the TUF 33 pre-show press conference, Cormier shared a creative idea for what the traditional battle between head coaches should replace at the end of the season.

“We don't fight, I don't want to fight anyone … but Chael and I came up with an idea,” Cormier explained. “So Chael and I talk. I have Michael Chiesa in my coaching staff, Chael has Colby Covington on his coaching staff. Why don't they just fight and Chael and I coach them? That is about as close if we both came to the Octagon.

“Why don't those guys just fight against each other?”

Sonnen doubled the statement of Cormier.

“To support Daniel, I can't believe that nobody suggests that, that's the obvious fight,” said Sonnen. “I don't think Colby and Chiesa will get through this process without finding each other.”

Michael Chiesa called Colby Covington after completing Tony Ferguson on UFC Abu Dhabi last year. Covington returned to De Kooi in December and lost TKO to Joaquin Buckley in the UFC Tampa Headliner.

Michael Chiesa vs. Colby Covington?

Chiesa recently submitted Max Griffin to UFC 310 in December. He won back-to-back fights, because a three-fight loss streak indicated the last part of his career, including defeats for Kevin Holland and Vicente Luque.

Just like Chiesa, Covington also comes from some recent struggles in the cage and loses four of his last six fights. Before he fell to Buckley, he lost to Leon Edwards in his third career UFC Lineal Title Shot on UFC 296.

Covington and Chiesa could possibly coach each other on Tuf 33 during their time. But for Cormier he would like to see the two good weights build a feud while filming the show that leads to a final UFC booking.
