Daniel Cormier thinks he’s figured out the ‘worry’ that has Jon Jones questioning Tom Aspinall fight

Daniel Cormier is one of those who watch while his former division still has two champions, Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, who still have to come to the Octagon.

Their heavyweight union fight was unconventionally not the direct port of approach when 'Bones' returned from an injury. Instead, Jones faced and defeated Stipe Miocic on UFC 309 in November 2024.

While Aspinall is waiting for a shot to turn his interim gold into an undisputed status, both he and the MMA masses seem to be frustrated.

UFC CEO Dana White says that Jones vs. Aspinall will happen, but that has not relieved the anger of fans who believe that the American hunter avoids the matchup for fear.

One of the former opponents of Jones would not use such a term, but he does believe that there is a “worries” in the spirit of the goat candidate.

Daniel Cormier says that Jon Jones is worried about one of the highlights of Tom Aspinall

During a video that was recently uploaded to his YouTube channel, Cormier sketched his last thoughts about the heavyweight title photo.

Despite his hostility towards Jones, originating from their legendary rivalry, 'DC' rejected every suggestion that 'bones' are afraid of Aspinall.

But Cormier theoretized that concern about seeing the first apart, so that Jones postponed his decision about fighting the young interim champion.

'I don't know [Jones] Has done someone like Aspinall, because Aspinall is so large and young, “Cormier said.” That may be his only hesitation.

“If I had to guess, I don't think Jon Jones is afraid of Tom Aspinall. The only thing that Jon Jones has avoided that none of us has that Visual is ready for him.

“Even the great Islam Makhachev was eliminated earlier. A visual has been eliminated by him. Jones has been able to avoid that for a very long time; fighters in the course of three generations.

“But there might be a man at the moment who gives him a little more than most.”

Jon Jones's recent focus was on Daniel Cormier, not on Tom Aspinall

Jones and Cormier have appeared somewhat warmly in recent years. That is far away from the peak of their rivalry – a notorious fight during a 2014 press conference.

But some comments from 'Bones' during an interview with Geoffrey Woo may have revived the hostility.

“Peak 'Bones' vs. Peak 'DC' in heavyweight?” Said Jones. “I believe I defeated Daniel Cormier with heavyweight worse than I defeated him on light heavyweight.

“I feel that my speed has passed into a way that he did not do. I think I hit him quite worse in heavyweight.

“I kick harder. I hit harder like a heavyweight, but I kick a lot harder. They have seen what my stairs have done to him [in] The first fight. “

The retired heavyweight has since responded, with Cormier Jones advised to concentrate on Aspinall instead of their history.
