Daniel Levy delivers verdict on Ange Postecoglou as Spurs boss set one target

Tottenham stays 14th in the Premier League during what chairman Daniel Levy described as a “very challenging” campaign, but Europa League offers an enormous opportunity

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy calls for Ange Postecoglou to deliver silverware at the end of a “very challenging” season.

In an address with the most recent financial accounts of the club, the levy admitted that the results of the first team were subject to the expectations – while separately underlies the costs of missing Europe.

Spurs, who returns to action with a meeting against Chelsea on Wednesday, are 14th in the Premier League and depend on all the way in the Europa League to ensure that they are in the UEFA competition next season.

Levy said: “While we announce our financial results for the year until 30 June 2024, we are currently in the 14th position in the Premier League and we navigate a very challenging season on the field.

“However, we are in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League. Winning this competition would be welcome silverwork and an average qualification for the UEFA Champions League. We have to do everything we can to support the team in the latter important phases.”

And the club's accounts show how valuable is in Europe. Spurs missed that he was involved last season and had earned £ 56.2 million for reaching the Champions League round of 16 a campaign earlier -excluding extra matchday income.

The club said: “UEFA prize money was £ 1.3 million (2023: £ 56.2 million) as a result of the difference between non -participation in European competition in the current year and reaching the Champions League round of 16 in the previous year. The prize money in the period is a last account payment related to the previous season.”

MatchDay vouchers also fell by £ 11.8 million due to nine fewer home games, although the club keeps getting the most out of its stadium with Beyonce among those who perform lucrative performances there this summer. The commercial income of last year increased to £ 255.2 million, an increase of £ 227.7 million 12 months earlier.

But Levy urged a well -known note about recruitment and added: “We must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial resources. I often read calls for us to spend more, since we are ranked as the ninth richest club in the world.

“However, a further investigation of today's financial figures shows that such expenses must be sustainable in the long term and within our operational income.”
