DANNY MURPHY: Amorim must gets over feud with Garnacho and start him against LIV

Alejandro Garnacho has not started in any of Manchester United's last six games but would be one of the first names on my team sheet at Anfield on Sunday.

If Liverpool have shown any weakness this season, it is that the likes of Anthony Gordon, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tyler Dibling have come at them at speed.

When Arne Slot's men see the United team for the first time, they will be more concerned about the presence of Garnacho and Amad Diallo than, say, Rasmus Hojlund.

I know there has been talk of Garnacho showing dissent towards Amorim, and it may turn out that he is not part of United's long-term future due to the manager's preferred formation.

But whatever happens in the future must be put aside on Sunday. Liverpool away is a one-off. It is United's biggest game and Amorim desperately needs a result.

For 90 minutes, forget about the future project – try to achieve a result now. Garnacho is one of the few assets he has that will worry Liverpool. We saw against Newcastle on Monday that Hojlund, one-on-one against Fabian Schar, was little threat to a top defender.

Garnacho's presence won't guarantee United's victory, but he and Diallo would at least give Liverpool's defenders something to think about.

If they are occupied by United's counter threat, they will become less aggressive in the press, giving Amorim's players more time on the ball.

After this weekend we know that United are facing a massive rebuild. Amorim needs new blood and that will cost money, which means he also needs to leave.

I listened to offers for several big United players, including Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Hojlund, in addition to the obvious – Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Joshua Zirkzee and Antony.

Marcus Rashford's interview about his desire for a new challenge also appears to be the final nail in the coffin of his United career.

None of them are bad players, but a club like United can do better. They need more energy and athleticism all around.

The nine players I would rank alongside new recruits are Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Mason Mount. The rest is in the shop window.
