Darwin Nunez has broken his silence on the limited minutes he played for Liverpool this season and seems to focus on the club in a now removed tweet.
The striker has only made eight starts in the Premier League in 2024-25 and has registered 1000 minutes in 25 league games – on average 40 minutes per appearance.
NUNEZ started only one league match in 2025 – a 3-1 victory over Southampton in March in which he scored.
It has recently been speculated that NUNEZ has made so little start because of a clause in his contract that means that Liverpool will ow his former club Benfica £ 5 million when he starts another game.
This week's reports in Portugal claimed that the Lisbon club gets a windfall in add-ons when Nunez 60 starts in the Premier League and Champions League combined. The Uruguay striker is currently 59.
And on Saturday the Reds frontman seemed to tackle these claims in a removed post on X. He wrote: “No wonder I didn't play anymore, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly went …”
The future of Nunez in Liverpool has been the subject of heavy speculation, in which the club rejects an approach to Al-Nassr to sign him in January.
Mail Sport understands that the Saudi outfit can circle in the summer, when Liverpool is also expected to make a concrete decision about the future of Nunez.
Hours after sending the Liverpool fan base in turmoil with his shock tweet, Nunez continued as if everything was normal with his follow -up post.
The 25-year-old posted a photo next to his teammate Alexis Macallister, with a cup of partner-a traditional Argentinian beverage with the caption: “Good morning!”
When he was asked about the reported clause of Nunez on Friday, Liverpool manager Arne Slot explained that he was not aware of such a provision that existed in the attacker's contract.
The Dutchman also stated that he was not told by Richard Hughes – Sporting Director of Liverpool – not to start Nunez.
Slot said: 'Do you always believe what journalists say? Not always? Not me either. Sometimes you should do that, but sometimes it is better not to believe everything that has been written about players.
'This is completely new to me and I have often said that I work here in a club where it is really fun to work.
'So mainly sports directors are assessed by the players they bring in, it is very important for me to have a great working environment and I have that with Richard [Hughes].
“The last, last, last, last, last thing he would do, as I expected that I would work with him for 10 months, is to tell me:” If you play him, it would cost us so much “.
“That, he would never, never, never do. I don't even know if it's true, yes or no, because we never talk about it. He never interferes with a line -up.
'It might be true, but if a journalist says we have to do it [take it with a pinch of salt]. '
Liverpool spent £ 85 million on Nunez to break him out of Benfica in 2022, but he has been struggling since his arrival.
The frontman scored 40 goals in 138 performances since the landing in England.
In his two full seasons in Liverpool, he has arranged in the top three for great opportunities missed in the Premier League, with 21 in 2022-23 and 27 the following year.
This season he only scored seven goals and registered four assists in his 40 performances in all competitions.
