The rumor voltage between Liverpool -Duo Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez seems to be nothing but hear saying, based on the recent comments of the latter.
After the heartbreaking Champions League Penalty Shootout of the Reds, images of Salah that looked like Nunez was uploaded to social media. The moment took place after Gianluigi Donnarumma saved the penalty from Nunez.
Salah seemed to be away from Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Andy Robertson, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones, who later suffered a failed spot – while they were comforting in the half way.
The new images showed that the Egyptian was the only teammate who did not comfort Nunez. Despite the icy optics on the Anfield grass mat, the earlier comments from Nunez, however, suggest that he and Salah have a good working relationship.
When asked for Salah, Nunez only said this week to TNT Sports Mexico: “He has an incredible mentality. When you arrive at the club, you see him there for everyone, hard work.
“He has an incredible mentality, and I always try to look and learn from him. He is an example for many. Sometimes we make jokes with him; I tell him he doesn't give me a good pass, and we laugh about it in the dressing room.”
The Reds collapsed from the competition and lost 4-1 in the dreaded shootout. They came to Anfield with the narrowest benefits and had beat the Ligue 1 Champions 1-0 in the French capital.
On this occasion it was the side of Luis Enrique who hit the first blood through the early strike of Ousmane Dembele. Despite some sensational football from PSG and Liverpool, the draw was not decided to be a nerve -racking shootout.
After Salah scored the first penalty of Liverpool, Nunez and Jones both saw their efforts saved by the gigantic Donnarumma, while Douse, Dembele, Goncalo Ramos and Vitinha all scored with their spot kicks. It was a huge opportunity that was missed for the Merseysiders, who would have confronted Aston Villa in the quarterfinals.
After he was shocked by the FA Cup by Plymouth Argyle, the only focus of the Reds is now the Premier League title, where they are currently 15 points free from the second placed Arsenal, and the League Cup final, where they will be confronted with Newcastle in Wembley on Saturday 15 March.
The Reds will sweat over the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate, who both knocked against PSG. Although Alexander-Arnold is likely to be offside for the Wembley collision, there is hope that Konate can make a quick recovery.
After the game, Slot said: “I have to ask, but for me, [Konate] Was more that he was tired than an injury. He had to get rid of Trent. That is never a good sign.
“And what I heard from people who saw the images or how he was injured, who didn't look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday.”
