Data Debrief: Madrid pay the penalty

Real Madrid of ten men wasted the chance to expand their lead at the top of Laliga when they were held to a 1-1 draw of Osasuna on Saturday.

Los Blancos had to play a player light most of the game after the 39th minute of Jude Bellingham and could not hold their lead.

After a clear start of the game in which Vinicius Junior nodded widely from next to the goal post, Kylian Mbappe Madrid brought forward in the 15th minute and ended up close after a Federico Valverde opposition.

Every positive momentum they had gained, however, was stopped before the break when Bellingham got his mars orders after a long -term argument with the referee.

Osasuna tried to use their numerical advantage, with Jon Moncayola Thibaut Courtois forced 10 minutes in the second half in a stunning rescue.

Moments later, Ante Budimir came from the penalty spot with a neat finish when he was polluted in the box by Eduardo Camavinga.

Madrid tried to insist on a late winner, but struggled to show their quality in the last third part when they expanded their Winless Run to three games in the competition. They remain top at 51 points, two for Atletico Madrid, who play later on Saturday.

Data Debrief: Madrid pays the fine

Madrid had hoped to build on their positive 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League in Midweek, but instead has not succeeded in having three LaLala competitions in a row for the first time since November 2020 in one campaign to win.

In some respects they are only to blame themselves. That was the ninth penalty that they admitted in all competitions this season, the most that they have given away in a single campaign (11) since 2018-19 (11). Camavinga has given away three.

The recent hot streak of Mbappe, however, took place when he scored the opening goal of a Liga match for the sixth time this season, with only Robert Lewandowski (eight) on more occasions.

And the goal of Budimir saw him written in the history books. His strike was his 57th for Osasuna in Laliga, similar to the record of Sabino Andonegui as the top scorer of the club in history.
