Data Debrief: Young guns seal it for Ange

Super-subs Dane Scarlett and Damola Ajayi helped to seal the place of Tottenham Hotspurs in the Europa League Top Eight with a heavily fought 3-0 victory over Elfsborg.

The victory sees Spurs finish fourth in the rankings of 36 teams, with a potential draw against AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, FCSB or Ajax awaiting the last 16.

Spurs started clearly in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but could not let their early chances count, where Isak Pettersson made a series of impressive rescues to maintain the game level.

The best moment of Petterson arrived six minutes before the break and tipped brilliant about Mikey Moore's Close-Range effort on the bar after good work by son Heung-Min

But on their return from the break, Elfsborg spread a glorious opportunity when the acrobatic effort of Jalal Abdullai released the crossbar after the bent strike of Bosfort Zeneli.

Spurs, however, would get ahead in the 70th minute when Scarlett, by replacing the wounded Radu Dragusin, home from the cross of Dejan Kulusevski.

And with six minutes left, Ajayi sealed – on his entire tracks – debut – the victory after playing a neat one -two on the edge of the box with Scarlett before finding the bottom corner.

Colleague-younger Moore added further shine to the score in the second half of the stop time, whose riding run ended with him who squeezed the ball along Petterson.

Data Debrief: Young weapons seal it for Ange

On a big night for not only postcoglou, but also for Spurs, it was also their young players who follow the task of guaranteeing their progression to the last 16 in a game that threatened to become uncomfortable in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Thanks to goals from Scarlett (20Y 312D), Ajayi (19Y 34D) and Moore (17y 172d), Spurs became the first English side to have three scorers younger than 21 in a major European match since Arsenal in October 2007 versus Slavia Prag (Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner and Cesc Fabregas).

Moore also became the youngest score of England ever in the big European competition and broke the record of Jimmy Greaves (17y 245d), in October 1957 for the London XI against Lausanne-Sport.

In the meantime, Ajayi became the youngest Sub who scored for Tottenham in major European competition since Harry Kane against Shamrock Rovers in December 2011 (18Y 140D).
