Date set for Everton – Liverpool rescheduled game, reports suggest

The Premier League's Merseyside derby, the last to be played at Goodison Park, was postponed last weekend due to high winds.

With Everton moving to a new stadium for the 2025/26 Premier League season, last weekend's visit to Liverpool should have been the final Merseyside derby at the iconic Goodison Park. But Mother Nature had other plans…

As Storm Darragh ravaged western Britain, concerns grew over the safety of supporters and Everton opted to postpone the clash. Due to other scheduling considerations to be taken into account, a new date for the match was not immediately announced. Now it looks like we have a possible date for the rescheduled game.

The Mirror reports that the rescheduled match between Everton and Liverpool is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, a midweek match before the final derby match at Goodison Park. The report adds that the Premier League is still in discussions with local police to ensure the match can be conducted safely.

Busy schedule for Everton and Liverpool

While other European leagues take a break over the Christmas period, the English top flight is heading in the opposite direction. Festive football has always been part of the national calendar and many teams will play three matches over eight days at the end of December, making it difficult to reschedule.

Everton still have matches against Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Nottingham Forest scheduled for this month. Meanwhile, Liverpool have to play Fulham, Southampton, Spurs, Leicester and West Ham. Liverpool also have two midweek Champions League matches in January, further complicating matters for the Premier League's match computer.

Nevertheless, Liverpool boss Arne Slot recently dismissed rumors of fixture congestion, insisting the busy schedule would allow his team to build momentum.

“I wouldn't say it's a problem,” Slot told reporters in September when asked about England's overcrowded fixture list. “Because when you play these games, you get stronger and stronger and stronger.”
