Atletico Madrid -midfielder Rodrigo de Paul has completed his delayed switch to participate in MLS Side Inter Miami.
De Paul has been in conversation with the American side since the exit of Atletico Madrid from the FIFA Club World Cup and the last details have now been agreed.
The experienced midfielder now connects with the former international teammate Javier Maschaerano of Argentina and the current captain Lionel Messi in Florida.
The 31-year-old was closed on loan until the end of 2025, according to the end of the regular MLS season, with the option to activate a permanent transfer clause at the beginning of 2026 to 2029.
De Paul spoke about his joy about completing the agreement in a daring new career chapter.
“What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, write pages in the history of the club,” according to quotes from Mundo Deportivo.
“It's a club that gets good to have a long history, so that many people will follow this incredible team.”
The departure of the Paul will also enable Diego Simeone to reform his own midfield in Madrid after a large summer of investments in the Estadio Metropolitano.
Alex Baena, Thiago Almada and Johnny Cardoso have all arrived in the Spanish capital and it is likely that Simeone will start all three in 2025/26.
That has effectively established the decision of the Paul, but the owner of Inter Miami, David Beckham, has insisted that he still has enough to offer to offer his new team.
“He brings experience, passion and quality to the team. Rodrigo is a player that I had admired for many years.
“As a leader, he contributed enormously to the teams for which he played, especially his national team, Argentina.”
Next summer's World Cup is an important motivator for the Paul in his move to the US with Argentina already qualified with two games that will still play in 2025.
