David Ornstein: Palhinha to have Spurs medical ahead of loan move from Bayern

Joao Palhinha has a Tottenham Medical in Germany on Friday for a seasonal loan movement from Bayern Munich.

The deal contains the option to make the transfer permanent for € 30 million at the end of the season, and Spurs covers its complete wages.

The athletics reported on Thursday that Tottenham was talking to Bayern during a proposed loan movement for Palhinha. The Portuguese midfielder was made available this summer by the German champions, but the Premier League club preferred a loan movement above a permanent deal.

Palhinha came to Bayern last summer in a deal of € 51 million ($ 58.3 million) after a successful two years at Fulham, but he only made 25 performances in front of Vincent Kompany, of which 10 started.

The 30-year-old was often behind Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Konrad Laimer in the selection of Kompany, and the German champions have drawn another midfielder this summer, Tom Bischof.

Tottenham and Bayern have already done business this summer, after the North London club Mathys Tel permanently signed, after his loan period in the second half of 2024-25.

Palhinha was Fulham's player of the season in his debut campaign in Craven Cottage and made a total of 79 performances for the club. Before moving to the Premier League, he had spent the entire senior career in Portugal with Sporting CP and had different loan spells elsewhere.

The Portugal International could be Tottenham's fifth new arrival of the summer. Mohammed Kudus joined Spurs van West Ham United earlier in July in a deal with a value of £ 55 million ($ 74.7 million), alongside defenders Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai by Hajduk Split and Kawasaki, while Tel Permanent came from Bayern.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White would undergo a medical to join Tottenham, but later signed a new contract on the city.
