David Villa hails Barcelona icon as his ‘most impressive opponent’

Former Barcelona star David Villa has opened up against his toughest La Liga opponents.

The ex-striker won two La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League title in three seasons in Catalonia from 2010 to 2013.

He later went on to win another league trophy with Atletico Madrid in 2014, plus a UEFA Euro 2008 and FIFA 2010 World Cup double with Spain.

His 59 goals for Spain top the list of all-time goalscorers in La Roja and he remains one of the greatest strikers ever to grace Spanish football.

However, despite his personal love for scoring goals, he highlighted another Barcelona icon as his 'most impressive opponent in La Liga' – with Ronaldinho known more for his creative wizardry.

“Ronaldinho is the rival who has impressed me the most. When you play football, you see the stars of other teams and you want to face them,” said Diario AS.

“I would say Ronaldinho or Ronaldo Nazario were the ones. When I played for Zaragoza, I was always ready to play against them, even if we had problems later.”

In Villa's two years at Real Zaragoza, he won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in 2004, while Ronaldinho won a league title in 2005 and Ronaldo won the Pichichi Award in 2004.
