DAZN demands €573m from LFP for market dishonesty and contract breach

The row between Ligue 1's most important broadcaster Dazn and LFP – Ligue de Football Professionnel – has also escalated with Dazn, which requires € 573 million from the Ligue 1 administrative body, as reported by RMC Sport. DAZN and LFP are in each other's throats with regard to the Interior TV -Rights of Ligue 1. Dazn has refused to pay Ligue 1 clubs that they were fully owed this month, because the platform is of the opinion that they are by LFP Duped with regard to the number of subscribers they hoped to win in the acquisition of the TV rights of Ligue 1.

Dazn also believes that Ligue 1 clubs do not do enough to offer exclusive editorial content and that the means to combat piracy are insufficient. Dazn has therefore referred LFP to the commercial court of Paris. The broadcaster is of the opinion that they owe € 264 million in compensation for the “violation” of the contract signed at the LFP. What is more, Dazn demands another € 309 million from LFP for “Market Unclearness”.

L'Equipe believes that Dazn is adamant LFP, the managers of the broadcaster have not given all elements with regard to the market distribution of Ligue 1 before signing a deal of € 375 million a year. The outlet adds that this dispute could go through for months, if not years and the fact that Dazn can only mean that the broadcaster wants to earn her losses back.
